Power of attorney translation
For a power of attorney issued abroad to be valid in Turkey, it needs a sworn translation with notary approval. This is the document I translate most often.
When you need it
- Buying or selling property in Alanya when the buyer or seller cannot travel
- Inheritance matters — appointing a representative to act in Turkey on your behalf
- Authorising a lawyer for court and enforcement proceedings
- Acting for a company, opening and closing bank accounts
- Consent regarding a child — travel, residence permit application, school enrolment
What I watch for
Powers are translated exactly as written; a missing or loosely interpreted clause leads to rejection at the land registry.
Names must match the Latin spelling in your passport — this is the most common issue when translating from Cyrillic.
Powers of attorney issued by a foreign notary usually require an apostille; the apostille itself is included in the translation.
Every stamp, seal and handwritten note is reflected in the translation.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to bring the power of attorney to Turkey?
A clear photo or scan is enough for the quote and the translation. The original is needed at the notarisation stage — we plan that together.
Is the apostille translated too?
Yes. The apostille is an inseparable part of the document and is included in the translation.
The name on my power of attorney differs from my passport. Is that a problem?
It can be. I flag this before translating; sometimes a correction from the issuing authority is required.
