Consent declaration translation

A consent declaration records that you agree to a specific action. It comes up most often in matters involving children and in jointly owned property.

When you need it

  • One parent's consent for a child travelling with the other parent
  • A child's residence permit application and school enrolment
  • A spouse's consent to sell or let jointly owned property
  • Consents attached to tenancy agreements and citizenship files
  • Approval for actions requiring a guardian or trustee

What I watch for

1.0

The scope of the consent is carried over exactly. «For travel» and «for a residence application» are different scopes; a broadened translation can invalidate the document.

2.0

The child's and parents' names are checked against the Latin spelling in their passports.

3.0

Where a validity period applies (for example, specific dates), that wording is translated in full — it is the detail most often overlooked.

4.0

If issued by a foreign notary, the apostille is included in the translation too.

Frequently asked questions

How does a consent differ from a power of attorney?

A power of attorney authorises someone to act on your behalf; a consent simply records that you do not object. They are different documents and do not substitute for each other.

What details should a child travel consent contain?

Usually the child's and accompanying adult's details, travel dates and destination country. I will tell you what is missing once I see the document.

Does a consent issued in Turkey need translating?

Not if it was drawn up in Turkey in Turkish. For use abroad, a translation into the destination country's language may be required.
