Birth certificate translation
A birth certificate is the first document requested in almost any official process a foreign national goes through in Turkey — including for children.
When you need it
- Residence permit and family reunification applications
- A Turkish citizenship file
- Enrolling a child in school in Turkey
- Civil registry matters and entry into the family register
- Proving descent in inheritance cases
What I watch for
Parents' names, place of birth and the date format are carried over as written; day/month order differs between countries and is the most common source of error.
Older certificates may name administrative bodies that no longer exist; these are translated as they stand, not reinterpreted.
The child's surname is checked against the spelling in their passport.
Endorsements and correction notes on the reverse of the document are included in the translation.
Frequently asked questions
My birth certificate has no apostille. Can it still be translated?
It can be translated; but the authority you apply to may require an apostille. I will tell you upfront when that applies.
The document names a country that no longer exists. Is that a problem?
No. It is translated with the official name as at the date of issue; this is normal and familiar to the authorities.
I need several documents for my child — can they be done together?
Yes. I take family files as a whole and deliver them at the same time.
