Passport and ID translation
A passport translation is the first document requested in most property and banking transactions. Consistent spelling of your name is what decides the outcome here.
When you need it
- Property purchase and sale transactions
- Opening a bank account and loan applications
- Obtaining a tax number
- Company formation and shareholding matters
- Residence permit and insurance applications
What I watch for
The Latin spelling in your passport is taken as the reference and checked against your other documents. This is item one on the common-problems list on this site — the spelling settled here affects your whole file.
The machine-readable zone (MRZ) and serial numbers are carried over in full.
Visas, entry-exit stamps and residence stamps are translated separately when required; we decide which pages are needed based on your transaction.
Older ID cards contain fields no longer in use; these are translated as they stand, not reinterpreted.
Frequently asked questions
Does my whole passport need translating?
The data page is enough for most transactions. If visas or entry stamps are needed, those pages are added; tell me the transaction and I will confirm the scope.
My name is spelled differently across documents. What happens?
This is the most common reason files are rejected. I review all your documents together and tell you which spelling to standardise on and where a correction is needed.
Can an ID card be used instead of a passport?
It depends on the authority. Property and banking transactions usually require a passport; tell me where you are applying and we will check together.
